Our 28 bed Corrections Facility located in the rear of the Sheriff’s Office has a staff of 9 full-time and 6 part-time Corrections Officers. With in-house food service providing three meals a day, The Houghton County Corrections Facility offers inmates certain privileges including tv, chirpers, and 24-7 video visitation. Video Visitation is free on Saturday and Sunday. The Corrections Facility does not offer in-person visitation. The lobby of the Sheriff’s Office does offer onsite payment on account for inmates with cash, credit, debit, and check.

Inmates can receive counseling from the Copper Country Mental Health, Group Clergy once a week and 1 on 1 clergy once per week. Self-management counseling is also available to assist inmates for when they are released. An outdoor recreational yard is also available weekly.

The Houghton County Corrections facility will house when a bed is available for Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office and the KBIC Tribal Court. Our facility does not offer housing for juveniles.
